Travel Light...City & Forest
We travel light to city and forest, but we aren’t really traveling light, are we? We bring our own play histories with us and we share these with the children. We help them find ingredients for potions, sticks for fairy houses, leaves for letters and packages. We gift them with story and imagination.
Starting From Scratch in Eagle Forest
We had to move our forest site. So many obstacles to overcome! Nature gives and nature takes, but she’s always THERE. The move gave me an opportunity to rediscover what makes forest visits work for all age groups.
A view from the bridge
We can easily argue that this time spent outdoors, actively looking for the story nature leaves for us to read along the creek is better than any teacher-manufactured activity in a classroom. If this is kindergarten preparedness, give me a heaping dose of it every single day.
The Glowing
We are in an urban forest and wildlife is not hard to find, but the wildlife we see is in perpetual danger from humans. Especially this vixen and here she was now, dead. She had been poisoned. She would have been more effective in killing the rats and mice the poison was intended for if she had been allowed to live.
Ice On The Creek
These are the stories passed down that become part of the school's lore and through all of them, we pass the seasons at the creek. The children's plans factor in what nature gives them and surely in Winter, we will ice skate to Dragon Tooth!
