Cooperative Education, Shared Community
Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Cooperative education teaches us that our differences strengthen the whole community.
Cooperative nursery schools emerged from a rich tradition of democratic education and community self-determination. Rooted in progressive ideals that view families as essential partners in shaping educational experiences, our cooperative model embodies the principle that strong communities are built through shared responsibility and mutual aid.
When families choose to participate directly in their children's education, they practice democracy in its most fundamental form. Parents collaborate on decisions, share diverse perspectives, and work through challenges together, creating a living example of how inclusive communities function. This democratic participation naturally dismantles hierarchies and creates space for all voices to be heard.
Our cooperative structure draws from the understanding that education belongs to the whole community. Families who commit to this model, whether single parents, working parents, or families with varied schedules, share the benefits of shared community support that extend far beyond the classroom.
Through hands-on involvement, families model for children that building an equitable society requires everyone's active participation. Children witness adults from different backgrounds sharing leadership, learning from one another, and working collectively toward common goals.
We view this work through the lenses of family involvement, partnership with parents, community outreach, and ensuring access to nature for all children.
We learn together to become the community we want to be.
